Soon after registering my car in North Carolina, I received loads of junk mail. Most of the letters said something like:
VEHICLE ALERT NOTICE
REQUEST FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION – PLEASE ACT NOW
PERSONAL AND CONFIDENTIAL OPEN IMMEDIATELY
These letters were from the “Automotive Services Department”, the “Warranty Services – Extended Coverage Department”, of some other made up name, an were disguised as legitimate looking auto warranty letters. But really, they were from scammy companies trying to get me to sign up for an overpriced extended warranty for my car.
I did some digging and found others who had the same experience. It turns out that DMV information is publicly available. So wahoo, anyone can find out that you registered your call and can send you a bunch of spam.
Yes, I know there are methods to opt out of junk mail. I just felt bothered knowing that my info was in the hands of spammy companies.
It stopped within a few months.
Looks like there isn’t much that you can do to stop this. So if you’re in the same boat as me and the millions of others, you’ll likely just have to wait until it stops.
If they come USPS you can mark out your address and circle the senders (if there is one) on the envelope and refuse them by stating RETURN TO SENDER. Then drop them off at a different PO than yours. Make sure your address is not visible for this to be legal. Elvis Song you know
Thanks for posting this. It has just been the same for me.
I just received the same orange paper notice, I called them and they asked me a few questions then said I had to update my warranty for a price of 2,300 or do monthly 150 dollars. Ya no thank you. It’s a scam for sure. Thank you for showing your paper, for a second I was panicked then realized I have a warranty for 8 years lol.
RL Polk is the database responsible for this type of mailers.
Contact them and ask to be removed from their database.
You can also contact each sender directly – Google the return address, phone number, permit imprint/indicia (city state permit no 1234).
I have same experience like yours. I received such vehicle alert notice, vehicle expired action now, etc something like that as I see your images. I have same exactly like yours. They are pain in butt! I don’t like to showing my private vin# in the public mailbox. I am sure that it’s scam. Whoever is making those junk is probably trying to scare people and making people to call this numbers to collect information. Be advised never to call this numbers. Just keep throwing away!
